Introduction to Lohan in the Choy Li Fut System

Lohan Yoga or Qigong holds a central place within the Choy Li Fut (CLF) martial arts tradition, blending therapeutic Shaolin Qigong practices with the distinctive footwork and movements characteristic of Choy Li Fut. This ancient discipline not only enhances physical health and vitality but also enriches martial arts prowess through serene movements, meditation, and principles rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The lineage of Lohan within Choy Li Fut traces back to the upheaval surrounding the destruction of the Shaolin Temple about two centuries ago. Monk Choy Fook, one of the temple's few survivors, found sanctuary in Guangdong province where he imparted his knowledge to Chan Heung, an ambitious martial artist seeking to elevate his Kung Fu skills. Under Choy Fook's tutelage, Chan Heung absorbed the full spectrum of Shaolin Kung Fu and Qigong disciplines, including the transformative practices of Lohan. This legacy has endured through generations, becoming a cornerstone of the Choy Li Fut tradition. Today, our esteemed GrandMaster diligently upholds this heritage, ensuring the enduring vitality of Lohan within our lineage.

GM and the Preservation of Lohan Yoga

At the heart of our commitment to Lohan is GM, our revered founder, whose lifelong dedication has been devoted to safeguarding and sharing this profound system. His journey began with a deep fascination for Asian culture, sparked by insights from a documentary on Buddha's life and his yogic practices. Intrigued by the ancient practices of the Eighteen Lohan Hands and their connection to the Pali Canon, he embarked on a global quest to immerse himself in this timeless discipline.

Over fifteen years, he apprenticed under the guidance of three esteemed masters of Lohan, including the renowned Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong and the venerable Chan Sun-Chiu, the last guardian of the most direct lineage of Lohan. Following Chan Sun-Chiu's passing in 2013, GM assumed the mantle as the sole living disciple of this revered master, honouring his teacher's wish to propagate the complete Lohan system. In tribute to his mentor's legacy, he renamed our organisation as Lohan, bridging ancient wisdom with contemporary relevance while preserving its traditional roots.

Integrating Traditional Yoga Insights

Influenced by his profound understanding of traditional yoga, which shares synergies with Lohan Qigong in understanding and restoring the body's full system, he has seamlessly integrated these insights into the framework of Lohan. This integration enhances practitioners' understanding and experience, emphasising not only physical health but also spiritual and mental well-being.

GM’s dedication to restoring Lohan is celebrated in a recent feature in *Yoga Magazine*, highlighting his efforts to preserve its authenticity within the Choy Li Fut tradition. His meticulous study under revered masters and commitment to the lineage ensures that practitioners receive authentic guidance, fostering a deep connection to the ancient wisdom of Lohan.
